International Day of the Girl Activities

Once again, the entire school came together to celebrate the International Day of the Girl on October 11. During the school day, students wrote letters to pen pals in Mercy schools around the world, with those letters destined for a fellow  Mercy school, the Convent of Mercy Academy in Jamaica. This activity provided a meaningful way to connect students of diverse cultures while finding a shared connection despite the physical distance that separates them. It reminds the students that they are all a part of the same global community, whether they live in America, Jamaica, or somewhere else. Despite living in different parts of the world and speaking different languages, we are all connected by the circle of Mercy.

Amanda Murray ’24, the Vice President of the L.E.A.D. Council, reflects on the activity, sharing “For me, the pen pal activity on the International Day of the Girl was an impactful way to connect the mercy spirit with communities worldwide. LEAD’s mission is to empower and build confidence in women - not only within the Gwynedd community but across the globe - so I believe this project is a significant step in spreading our message.” Gwynedd students eagerly anticipate receiving letters in return soon!
